Late October
Lotsa heart stuff, wearable tech, etc.
Behind this month…stuff I’m thinking about
DFA a1 - I’m starting to think this could be the next big frontier in cardiac monitoring for sport performance, similar to where RMSSD was 5-10 years ago in terms of market penetration (which is to say, it’s crawling out of the lab/clinic and gaining awareness with early adopters / enthusiasts). Here’s a good literature review.
HRV and atrial fibrillation. More is not always better. I swear if I had a career to do over again I’d be a cardiologist. This stuff is fascinating.
I’ve been learning more about ketones lately, this time focused on diesters (most ketones in market are monoesters). Monoesters absorb faster, diesters slower, and can actually impair athletic performance in some cases.
Got my new (Gen 2) Oura ring. Two days of sorta normal data. Then some app updates, then a firmware update, then chaos and inaccurate data for about a week. Then more updates & resets, and the data looks real again and the ring returned to its spot as an essential part of my health arsenal. And of course, now Gen 3 is available, so I ordered that too. It’s part of my day job to keep up with the leading edge on all these things.
Probably my next vacation. I’m guessing there’s some good cycling to be had in that area after a morning of bird hunting.
RAIN. We got rain. That means snow in the mountains. I hope ski season is great this year, as much for the local economies in ski towns as anything else.
